A Saskatoon ice cream shop known for its long lines and loyal customers has hit the market for $329,800.
Chardon Ice Cream, located at 1945 McKercher Drive in the Lakeview neighbourhood, includes the shop structure, equipment, fixtures and inventory. The husband-and-wife owners are retiring after operating the seasonal business for a quarter century.
The 160-square-foot shop operates from April to September, opening just four hours each evening. Financial information is available to potential buyers who sign a confidentiality agreement, according to the MLS listing posted by RE/MAX Saskatoon.
Community members expressed sadness about the sale on social media. Reddit users speculated the owners' health may have influenced the decision to sell.
"This makes me sad for the couple. Hope the wife is ok," one user wrote on online Monday.
The asking price sparked debate online, with some questioning whether the seasonal operation justified the cost. Others defended the valuation, noting the shop's consistent customer traffic and established reputation.
"Every time I went it was doing steady business and often there was a lineup"
The listing suggests opportunities exist to expand beyond current operating hours. The business has operated on leased land in a parking lot since 2000.
Salesperson Steven Jantzen of RE/MAX Saskatoon is handling the sale.
